KASCON PR TOUR - Part One

1.5.07 - 4PM
I’m writing this in the car.
Stephen (Associate Director) and I are on the way up from ATL to NY. We thought the drive would take about 10 hours (because Stephen claims he’s the best driver in the world) but in actuality, it’s going to take us about 14. THAT SUCKS. We’re probably going to arrive in New York at around 2 in the morning. Currently located in Virginia, I’m slowly going crazy listening to Stephen’s playlist on his iPod. But I slept for four hours and he’s driving so I guess he gets to choose the songs.
This week is going to be a killer. Grace (AD), Stephen (AD) and I are doing a PR tour for KASCON along the east coast holding press conferences, campus informational meetings for schools in session, and meeting a few KSA execs from other schools that aren’t in session yet. It’ll be fun but we’re going to get back home the night before classes start.
Our tentative schedule:

D.C. Recap: Second Day

We began the day with a White House briefing:
KASCON Exec, Making our issues known to the Bush Administration
Today, KASCON Executive Director...
Tomorrow, President...
James, contemplating some profound philosophical issues, like 'What is the meaning of lunch?'
The White House has some nice hallways... Really nice hallways...
And then we went to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, where we looked at the Korean art and cultural exhibit. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the artifacts. Stupidly, it never occurred to me. Instead I took these... Oy vey...

Yeah, you don't wanna mess with KASCON.

D.C. Recap: First Day

First day of the trip, have to say James, Joan, and I were pretty pooped. We didn't get any sleep the night before because we took some really early flights and had some papers to finish the night before. I tried to sleep in the plane, but there was this baby in front of us who kept crying. And then this funny, bug-eyed baby next to us, kept pounding at the tray with his feet.
So James and I look out the window as we are passing over Virginia, and what do we see, but some strange white stuff on the riverbanks. 'Why does Virginia have so much sand?' we wondered.
It took us a while to realize it was snow! Amazing, haven't seen snow like that since the blizzard of 93'. Isn't it sad how we Georgians remember the years of snow? If you want an explanation of the picture, just two words: snow and fatigue.
Our first impression of D.C.: Cold... Very cold...
James really looks like he's ready to go doesn't he? He's got this Sir Edmund Hillary thing goin' on in the Dulles shuttle and a preppy Fast and the Furious look in the car. Yeah, James was definitely ready to get some action, ready to tear up that Virginia backroad in our gas-efficient Kia Spectra.
We opted not to get the GPS cause we like to live dangerously. Who needs a GPS when you got brains and a map? Joan was scared we would never get to D.C., but as our next picture clearly shows, we made it to D.C., and had lunch with Mike and Chong (who was taking the picture). And we got there using nothing other than the Hertz map.
We had some time to kill afterwards, so we went to M Street.

And then we came across a really funny sign. We were about to give D.C. two e-propz for representing...

Afterwards we headed to Georgetown and met up with Karen, Jessica, and Jane. They were really cool and nice and treated us to dinner.
Georgetown's campus was beautiful. It was old-fashioned and looked a lot like the ideal college campus from a romantic movie or something.
We also got to meet students from George Washington, but unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. But they seemed excited about the dance competition. Haha.
And that's about it for the first day. We all passed out shortly afterwards.
